Roles
Everything here is public and free to read without an account. Roles are about the other direction: who may change the record, and how much of what they change waits for review first.
All six below are roles. They are one field on an account, and it is the field the database itself reads before allowing a change. Two of them arrive by being counted, the other three are given by a person, and that difference is the last column rather than the first: what a role lets you do matters more than how it turned up.

Contributor is the odd one, and it is worth being straight about it: it grants nothing a member cannot already do. It records that corrections of yours have been accepted, and it is the rung before the one that changes your day.
That one is Trusted. Below it every correction waits for a moderator; at it, the ones about who is in a picture, what it is and when it came out apply as you make them. A source, a provenance, a takedown or anything that changes what is published waits for a moderator at every level, including this one. It can also be lost, because a role is a permission rather than a souvenir: accuracy falling below the bar puts the next correction back in the queue.
Ask for one
Curator, Moderator and Administrator are about judgement rather than volume, so no count can award them. Say which one and what you would do with it. A record of accepted corrections is the strongest thing you can point at, and there is no shortlist and no deadline.
The other chip on a profile
Some profiles show two chips rather than one, and they are not the same kind of thing. Administrator, Moderator and Curator on this page are roles: they decide what an account may change. Beside one of them you may see something like Founder, which decides nothing at all.

- Grey, rounded. Says something about the person. Grants nothing.
Keeping them apart is deliberate rather than tidy. Labels are meant to be easy to hand out, and if one could grant a permission then handing it out would be granting the permission. So no policy in the database reads a label, and nothing checks one before allowing a change.
